"I have a word of warning for you , Geoffrey," said Peg Nose Pete.  "Do not look for a shortcut to the end of this story.  And whatever you do, do not sneak a peek at the last page of this book!"

"Peg Nose Pete, I don't understand," said Geoffrey. "How can I be a character in this book?  I am just a nose!"

"You wouldn't be the first beak to make it big in books," Peg Nose answered.  "Come with me to the next page.  You will begin to understand."
